Urgot hasn’t always been this strong and tanky top laner that often carries games in League of Legends. In fact, Urgot was more of an AD carry in the earlier seasons, with high AD ratios on all of his abilities. Nowadays, Urgot still does good damage, but what is the type of that damage? And is Urgot an AP or an AD champion in LoL?
In this post, I’ll tell you everything you need to know about Urgot’s damage in season 13. And no matter if you’re looking to play this champion or you need a few tips on how to build against him, this guide will be helpful to you.
Let’s begin!
Is Urgot AD or AP?
Urgot is an AD juggernaut. He only deals physical damage and his abilities only scale with attack damage. Most players build Urgot like an AD tank with items that offer both offensive and defensive stats. Urgot deals most of his damage from range and not melee.
If you’ve never played Urgot or you’ve never bothered to learn how his abilities work, here’s a quick rundown for you.
Urgot’s passive – Echoing Flames allows him to deal bonus physical damage to enemies around him. This is tied to his 6 legs, each of which can perform such a frontal auto-attack in a cone shape. The ability also takes up to 6% of the target’s maximum HP as damage.
The Q – Corrosive Charge is a simple spell that deals damage in a target area. It’s one of Urgot’s main damaging abilities since it scales with 70% of his total AD.
His W – Purge is a toggle ability that shoots marked enemy champions. This damage is also physical and scales with 20 / 23.5 / 27 / 30.5 / 34% bonus AD, based on its rank. Urgot’s W also procs all on-hit effects but at 50% effectiveness.
Urgot’s E – Disdain is a jump and a knock-up spell all in one. When cast, it deals damage that scales with 100% of Urgot’s AD. But it also gives him a shield that scales with 150% of his AD and 15% of his bonus health.
And finally, Urgot’s R – Fear Beyond Death is an “execute” type of ability that does up to 350 physical damage plus 50% bonus AD.
That’s how Urgot deals damage in League of Legends!

Does Urgot Scale with AP?
Urgot does NOT scale with AP. None of his abilities do magic damage and he doesn’t have any AP ratio in his kit. Buying ability power items on Urgot is completely useless since he doesn’t benefit from them at all. Only on-hit AP items might have some value for him, but that’s very rarely.
Before Riot Games reworked Urgot and he still had his old abilities, some players used to build him with AP. Back then, Urgot had a high AP ratio on his W which was then a self-shield. As a result, Urgot could be very tanky with his large shield.
But nowadays, Urgot can only be played as an AD champion. Most players build him like an off-tank with items such as Hullbreaker, Frostfire Gauntlet, Titanic Hydra, and Gargoyle Stoneplate.
And almost no one builds Urgot AP in League of Legends!
All in all, Urgot is an AD-only champion in LoL. So if you’re looking to counter him, it’s best to buy armor and anti-tank items.

The Best Items for Urgot in League of Legends
Even though there are many that items work well on Urgot, here’s a list of the best ones. You’ll be smart to prioritize building these items in each game of Urgot. And here’s why.
- Frostfire Gauntlet – grants Urgot armor, magic resist, health, and ability haste. It also allows Urgot to deal bonus damage and slow enemies down.
- Hullbreaker – is a powerful item for solo top laners and split-pushers. It grants health, AD, and bonus damage to turrets while being alone.
- Titanic Hydra – is another offensive and defensive item that also applies on-hit effects and increases the damage of Urgot’s basic attacks.
- Black Cleaver – significantly lowers the armor of Urgot’s enemies and allows him to deal more damage to them.
- Thornmail – increases Urgot’s armor and also applies the Grevious Wounds effect on attackers.
- Plated Steelcaps – allow Urgot to stay longer in a fight and counter other AD champions in the game.
Is Wits End good on Urgot?
Wit’s End can be a good item on Urgot, especially against heavy AP teams. It will allow you to deal way more damage with basic attacks because of all the bonus attack speed and damage. But it will also protect you against magic damage in the game.
