Kayle is one of the oldest but one of the least understood champions in League of Legends.

She begins each game as a weak melee fighter without early game damage.

But as the match progresses, Kayle evolves into a ranged mage/marksman that can 1v5 the entire enemy team.

So is Kayle AP or AD? And what kind of damage does she deal?

Is Kayle AP or AD?

Kayle's E - AP and AD damage

Kayle is a hybrid champion in LoL, which means that she’s both AP and AD. All of Kayle’s abilities (except her W) have both AP and AD scaling.

And Kayle can go with either full AP or full AD build. However, Kayle’s abilities are all categorized as magic damage, so most players play Kayle AP.

Like the other hybrid champions in League of Legends, Kayle can choose whether to play AP or AD. Most of her damage comes from her auto-attacks and her E – Starfire Spellblade.

But since this ability also scales with ability power and attack damage, you can build anything you want.

Aside from her E, Kayle also deals a lot of damage with her Q and R. Like I already mentioned, the base of these abilities is magic, but they can also be enhanced with AD too.

Because of this, you’ll need to watch closely what Kayle buys in each game and build accordingly.

For example, if Kayle goes full AD, then you’ll need to build armor or a mix of armor and magic resist. But if she has an AP build, then you’ll need to focus on magic resist more.

AP Kayle or AD Kayle – What’s Better in Season 13?

First of all, Kayle can be played both AP and AD in season 13. Both builds are viable and they offer different advantages.

For example, the AD Kayle build gives you power spikes earlier on but the AP Kayle build has more damage overall in the late game.

In general, the AP Kayle build is better than the AD Kayle build in season 13. This is because the AP build synergizes more with Kayle’s abilities, most importantly her passive and E.

AP Kayle deals an insane amount of damage, especially after level 16. So, most players go for full AP Kayle.

Don’t get me wrong, AD Kayle can deal tons of damage too. However, it’s not considered the optimal playstyle for Kayle this season.

Here’s a YouTube video of AD Kayle vs AP Kayle. It’s not a realistic situation since you won’t be fighting another Kayle yourself. But it’s interesting to see nonetheless.

Conclusion

Even if you learn everything there is to know about how to play Kayle, there will still be new things to discover.

New changes bring a new playstyle for this champion and it seems like in each new patch high elo players switch between the AP and the AD builds.

I’d still recommend you to stick to the AP Kayle playstyle for the rest of season 13 simply because it’s reliable.

You can definitely have fun with the AD Kayle build, but be wary of its drawbacks.

That said, have fun and I hope you found this post informative!
