League of Legends has a replay system that allows you to watch replays of your games. However, this system is limited and it allows you to download only 20 past games.

It also does not allow you to download games from other patches.

Luckily, there are other methods you can use to watch old & expired replays in League of Legends. These methods will work regardless of the patch and how many games you have played.

I will help you learn how these replays work, and how they can be manipulated to be played whenever you would like.

Here’s How You Can Watch Old & Expired Replays in LoL:

ROFL Files

Rofl file is a replay file specifically made for League of Legends. When you will be downloading a League of Legends replay, it will always be in this format.

The most important thing you need to understand about ROFL files is how they are named. They have two components: server + game ID.

The server attribute tells us which server the game was played on, and the ID number is specific to that one game.

You can usually find ROFL files at this location:

C:UsersSefDocumentsLeague of LegendsReplays

The attributes from replay files can be typed in a LeagueOfGraphs link, this is a really cool way to find all the information about our match.

How To Open a ROFL File

So if you have an old replay sitting around, chances are you will not be able to open it the through the client. Luckily, there is a way around it.

First things first, you will need to locate the League of Legends folder. It will usually be at this address: C:Riot GamesLeague of Legends.

Once there you will need to find the League of Legends launch file, which is named LeagueClient.

Right-click on it, click create a shortcut and then paste the shortcut on your desktop.

Now you have everything set up. To launch old replay files, you will simply need to drag them out onto the LeagueClient shortcut. This will make them play automatically.

How to Download a ROFL File Without the League Client

There might be times when you had a great game but you forgot to download it. You might try going through your client in hopes of finding it, only to find out the game was lost to the 20 games limit.

Fortunately, there are two great tools you can utilize to recover your replays. These tools are “LoL Run it Back” and “LCU Explorer”.

Both apps are free and open for use. You can choose to use any of these tools because they work with the same underlying technology.

Since they have the same tech, it means that if one does not work the other will not work either. I am telling you this just in case you have issues with either of them because it will save you a bit of time.

Conclusion

This is the most efficient way of watching old and expired replays in League of Legends.

You can also use OPGG but it requires you to set up the tracking beforehand which means that method won’t work on much older replays.

Good luck and I hope my guide here helped you restore older replays in LoL!
