Most LoL players know Sejuani as the jungle tank that’s almost impossible to stop once she gets ahead. And it’s true, the traditional tank build for Sejuani is pretty powerful.
However, Sejuani also has a very fun AP build that works extremely well in season 13!
AP Sejuani is an underrated build that does an amazing amount of damage. Sejuani’s abilities are magic damage and have relatively high AP ratios.
So, building ability power items on Sejuani allows her to be much more lethal while still keeping her tankier than most melee champions in LoL.

In this post, I’ll explain everything you need to know about playing Sejuani with the AP build in season 13. I’ll talk about runes, items, and other necessary information you’re going to need.

Sejuani’s Damage & Abilities – Explained (Is Sejuani AP or AD?)
Is Sejuani an AP or AD champion in League of Legends?
Sejuani is a melee AP champion. All of Sejuani’s damage is magic except for her W which is a physical damage spell.
However, all of Sejuani’s abilities scale with ability power and have high AP ratios. That’s why Sejuani can be either played as a tank or with an off-meta AP build for more damage.
If you don’t play Sejuani often and you don’t really know how her abilities work, here’s a quick explanation for you.
Sejuani’s passive – Fury of the North has two effects. First, it allows her to deal bonus magic damage (scales with 10% of the target’s maximum health) with an ability or an attack on enemies that Sejuani has previously stunned.
And second, it gives Sejuani bonus armor and magic resistance when she first receives damage from an enemy champion or a monster.
Sejuani’s Q – Arctic Assault is her dash which also does magic damage and has a 60% AP ratio. Note, the damage is dealt to all enemies that Sejuani passes through!
The W – Winter’s Wrath is an ability that strikes twice, first in a cone and then in a line in front of her. The second hit does more physical damage and has higher ratios – 60% bonus AP and 6% of Sejuani’s max HP.
The E – Permafrost has a passive effect and it allows Sejuani to put marks on her target with auto-attacks and her W. Allied melee champions can also auto-attack to generate a stack.
And when Sejuani has 4 stacks on her target, she can activate her E to freeze the enemy champion and deal magic damage that scales with 60% of her AP.
And finally, Sejuani’s ultimate – Glacial Prison is her long-ranged stun that deals tons of damage if it’s cast from over 400 range. Normally it has a 40% AP ratio but if you throw it from afar, the ratio will be 80% AP instead.

Full AP Sejuani S13 Build – Runes

Electrocute
Electrocute is the keystone you’ll be using on AP Sejuani. It’s the best choice for an aggressive playstyle and it synergizes with Sejuani’s damage anyway.
What Electrocute does is that it damages an enemy with adaptive damage after you’ve struck them with 3 attacks (basics or abilities).
It scales with levels, so it stays a powerful tool for the rest of the game.
Sejuani has many combos that proc Electrocute, so it’s a very good keystone for her.
Cheap Shot
Cheap Shot is another rune that has fantastic synergy with Sejuani’s kit. It allows you to do bonus true damage to enemies that are already stunned or immobilized in any other way.
Sejuani has multiple ways to stun and slow her targets, so Cheap Shot is almost always active on her. For example, Sejuani’s ultimate freezes the target and her Q knocks enemies up, activating this rune.
Cheap shot has only 4 seconds of cooldown.

Eyeball Collection
Eyeball Collection is the best choice from the third row of Domination. It doesn’t do much, but it gives you a total of 30 bonus ability power when it’s fully stacked.
If you’re sticking to jungle Sejuani and not mid or top, you’re also welcome to try Zombie Ward or Ghost Poro. These two runes are better for keeping up vision than Eyeball Collection.
Ultimate Hunter
Ultimate Hunter is a very important rune for AP Sejuani. If you stack it up, it can reduce the cooldown of Glacial Prison down to 30 seconds.
Sejuani’s R is the hardest-hitting ability in her kit and it’s the spell that allows you to one-shot enemies. And needless to say, you need it as often as possible!
So, Ultimate Hunter will let you use Sejuani’s ult way more. Just make sure to collect the bounty stacks early on by scoring champion takedowns.
Transcendence
From Sorcery, Transcendence is the first rune you’ll need to pick up. This is one of the most useful runes for team fights in League of Legends and you should always have it.
Basically, Transcendence gives you a total of 10 ability haste. However, it also reduces a bit of the remaining cooldown on your basic abilities when you get champion takedowns.
This simply means that you’ll get to use Sejuani’s Q, W, and E more often if you take enemies down.
Scorch
And Scorch is the last rune you’ll need to select. You mainly take it for the additional damage during the laning phase.
One of the great things about AP Sejuani is that you can poke your lane opponents with W. And with Scorch, this hurts a lot!
However, if you play AP Sejuani in the jungle, you might want to switch to Gathering Storm instead.

Sorcerer’s Shoes
Sorcerer’s Shoes are the best type of boots for all AP assassins in League of Legends. And with this AP build, Sejuani becomes an assassin as well.
Sorcerer’s Shoes give you enough magic penetration for the early game, so it’s a good investment for your gold.
Hextech Rocketbelt
Speaking of AP assassins, Hextech Rocketbelt is the perfect mythic item for Sejani’s AP playstyle. It’s a very useful item to have on Sejuani for two reasons exactly.

First of all, Hextech Rocketbelt has a very unique active ability. It allows you to dash forward and also shoot rockets in front of you. The dash is convenient for getting in range or escaping a situation.
But the rockets can also help you deal more damage and trigger Electrocute.
And second, Hextech Rocketbelt is built with Hextech Alternator. This item makes it so your initial ability hits harder. In other words, Hextech Rocketbelt improves your burst damage and that’s definitely what you want on AP Sejuani!
Cosmic Drive
You don’t see Cosmic Drive on too many champions nowadays, but it works fantastically well on Sejuani!
What Cosmic Drive does is that it gives you a burst of movement speed when you strike an enemy champion with 3 attacks. These are essentially the same conditions as with Electrocute but instead of additional damage, you get more MS.
Movement speed is an important stat for AP Sejuani. It helps you chase down your enemies and run away if you need to. Sejuani is a short-ranged champion and not a very tanky one with this build.
So, the more MS you have the better!
Void Staff
Void Staff is usually the third item you’ll buy when you play AP Sejuani. This is because Sejuani already has high damaging numbers and ratios across her abilities, so building magic penetration early on is super important.
Void Staff will give you 40% magic penetration and that will be enough for the rest of the game!
Rabadon’s Deathcap
Rabadon’s Deathcap is the biggest boost in damage you can get on any AP champion in LoL, including Sejuani. This item grants 120 bonus ability power and it increases your total AP by 35%.
Whenever you get Rabadon’s Deathcap, your damage will almost double. And purchasing RA on Sejuani usually means that you’ll start one-shotting anyone on the enemy team.

Zhonya’s Hourglass
Zhonya’s Hourglass is the best defensive item you can get on any AP champion in the game. It’s especially useful on melee picks such as Sejuani because it helps you dodge so much damage when you go deep into the enemy team.
This item also gives you bonus armor and it can help you counter many champions in the mid lane, especially Zed, Talon, and Yone
Optional and Situational Items for AP Sejuani
Since each game of League of Legends is different, you’ll sometimes need to shake up your build.
For example, you can experiment by playing with Everfrost if you want to torment your enemies with more CC. On the other hand, Night Harvester is another item you can use for burst damage if you don’t like using Hextech Rocketbelt.
Demonic Embrace and Morellonomicon can help you counter tanks and healing champions in LoL.
But if you’re ahead, buying Mejai’s Soulstealer can often double your power, especially in the mid game.

Skill Order and Summoner’s Spells
The way you max out Sejuani’s abilities with this AP build isn’t different than how you would do that normally.
And even if you play AP Sejuani in the mid or top lane, you’ll still need to max out your W first. This is because it allows you to poke your lane opponent safely. And after that, you can max out your Q because the damage is really good.
Here’s how you’d level up AP Sejuani:

If you’re playing jungle AP Sejuani, you’ll probably go with Flash + Smite.
However, if you go in a lane, Flash + Ignite or Flash + Teleport are the two Summoner’s Spells combos you should use.
